Psoriasis

What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic condition that causes skin cells to build-up rapidly resulting in scaly, red dry and itchy patches of skin. The precise cause is unclear, although it is linked to the immune system and possibly genetics. Psoriasis causes skin cells to grow more rapidly than the time it takes for the skin cells to fall off. The condition typically affects people on their joints like elbows and knees but it can occur anywhere on the body including on the hands, feet, neck scalp and face.

What are the symptoms?

  • Red patches of skin with thick, silvery scales
  • Dry, cracked skin that may bleed
  • Itchiness, burning and soreness
  • Stiff and swollen joints
  • Small scaling spots (typically seen in children)
  • Thick nails

We understand that this condition is both physically and emotionally challenging to cope with. That’s why we are pleased to offer laser treatments to help manage the condition using concentrated beams of ultraviolet light.* If you suffer from this skin condition, schedule a consultation with Dr. Rubinstein to find out if laser treatment is ideal for you.
